Attendance Policy

There is probably no factor more important to successful school progress than regular school attendance.

Students from the ages of 6-18 are mandated by state law to attend school.

Parents/Guardians are required to complete a signed All-Day Absentee Form to submit to the attendance office within 48 hours of the of the student’s return to school for the absence to be considered excused. The All-Day Absentee Form may also be emailed to our attendance office or uploaded directly into FOCUS through the parent portal. Any attempt to excuse an absence after 48 hours will result in the absence being unexcused. All student make up work for excused absences will be accepted in adherence to the WHS Student Handbook's Attendance policy and the WCS Code of Conduct, p. 31.

Whenever a student is absent from school, the parent/legal guardian of that student is required by state statutes to contact school officials to justify the cause of each absence. School officials are required by state statutes to define each absence and tardy as “excused” or “unexcused.”

Determination of when an absence or tardy is excused or unexcused is the responsibility of the principal or his/her designee. To receive an excused absence, each student must present a note signed by his/her parent/legal guardian or professional provider when required by this policy within two (2) school days of the student's return to school.

Students who miss more than 10 minutes of a class will be considered absent from that class.

The Attendance Policy Will Be In Effect For The Entire School Year. Please review the Attendance Policy in the Wakulla High School Handbook.
