Crawfordville, FL – Wakulla High School English teacher Nancy Floyd Richardson is one of only six Florida teachers selected as a 2027 Auschwitz Legacy Fellow. In partnership with The Florida Holocaust Museum, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation fully funds a year-long experience for high school educators through the Auschwitz Legacy Fellowship, providing rigorous training, classroom resources, and an immersive study trip.
Richardson will join a national network of 42 other teachers for monthly workshops on Holocaust history, and the Fellowship includes a trip to Poland for expert-led tours of the Warsaw, Krakow, and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps.
"I'm thrilled about this opportunity," Richardson said. "I've spent a great deal of time educating myself and others through the years, but I have not visited these significant historical sites yet. I appreciate this opportunity to step foot on hallowed ground, learn directly from Holocaust educators, and join a cohort of instructors with similar interests."
Since first entering the classroom in 2005, Richardson has taught Holocaust education to hundreds of students through studying Night by Elie Wiesel and working cooperatively with the local Holocaust Education Resource Council.
Richardson has previously scheduled guest speakers, including two Holocaust survivors, coordinated a field trip to the Florida Holocaust Museum, and served as a panelist for a community discussion.
