The new athletic center is beginning to take shape as crews prepare, form and place its concrete foundations. Over the next several weeks, work will continue on the gym’s concrete block stem walls, below-slab utilities and damp-proofing.

Demolition at the new auditorium site is complete, and preparation of the building pad is underway. The next phase will include installing rammed aggregate piers—columns of compacted stone that strengthen the soil before the concrete foundation is constructed.

Work also continues along the utility corridor. Upcoming activity includes additional slab and framing work inside the ROTC building, along with preparation and foundation work at the future Carpentry building.

With several areas progressing from site preparation into foundation work, the Wakulla High construction project continues moving forward.

Work is moving forward on the new athletic center and gym. Crews are installing rammed aggregate piers—columns of compacted stone that strengthen the soil before the concrete foundation is poured. Renovation work on the ROTC building and preparation of the Central Utility Plant site are also underway. The contractor’s next three-week outlook includes gym foundation work and the utility corridor.

A change in the construction process required the Red student lot and faculty lot to be vacated unexpectedly. We do not expect other parking lots to be affected as work moves forward. Crews also plan to fill and patch holes in the Orange (Gridiron) Lot to prepare additional parking spaces.

Wakulla High School construction continues to move forward, with all start-of-school readiness items completed as Phase 1 progresses.

Over the past several weeks, crews have completed the parking, fencing and safety-related work needed to welcome students and staff back to campus. The temporary gravel parking lot and the lot between the baseball field and tennis courts are complete, along with new lighted stop signs and crosswalks at both parking areas to support student safety.

Protective fencing is also complete around active construction areas and student-accessible spaces. These barriers are an important part of maintaining a safe campus while construction continues and ensuring active work areas remain separated from students, staff and visitors.

With those start-of-school items in place, the project now moves into the next major stage of Phase 1. Work on the athletic center/gym building pad has begun with foundation-related work on track to begin in early September. Construction activity connected to the utility corridor is also expected to begin around mid-September.

Renovation work also continues on the ROTC building as part of the overall project.

Demolition and Parking Progress

Visible progress continues at Wakulla High School as Phase 1 demolition moves forward.

Buildings 5, 6, and 9 have been demolished as part of the first phase of construction for the new Wakulla High School. Hauling off of demolition materials will continue into next week as crews complete site cleanup and preparation for future construction.

Parking and safety improvements are also underway ahead of the start of school. The temporary gravel parking lot and the lot between the baseball field and tennis courts are expected to be ready by the first day of school. New crosswalks and lighted stop signs will be added at both areas to support student safety.

Additional information about Open House, student parking, traffic flow, and arrival procedures will be shared next week ahead of our Open House dates. Families are encouraged to watch for those updates and review the information before coming to campus. Updates will be shared via parent/guardian email, website, Wakulla High School section on the Wakulla County School app, and all social media platforms.

As we prepare for the new school year, we ask students, families, faculty, staff, and the Wakulla community for patience and flexibility during construction. Construction brings change, and change requires adjustment, but each step brings us closer to a new Wakulla High School that will serve generations of War Eagles.

Abatement for Buildings Complete

During the July 9 OAC meeting, project leaders shared that Phase 1 remains on track. Required pre-demolition abatement work has been completed for Buildings 5, 6, and 9, and demolition of those buildings is scheduled to begin next week.

Safety and security fencing remains securely in place around active construction and demolition areas. Wakulla County Schools continues to work closely with Allstate Construction to ensure the project moves forward safely, efficiently, and with continued attention to the needs of students, staff, and families.

Phase 1 Progress Remains on Track

The Wakulla High School new construction project continues to move forward, and Phase 1 remains on track.

District staff recently participated in the first Owner-Architect-Contractor meeting with our project manager from Allstate Construction to review early project progress, upcoming activities, safety protocols, site logistics, and the overall construction schedule.

While much of the initial meeting focused on internal planning and construction coordination, we are excited to share that key Phase 1 items remain on schedule, weather permitting. This includes continued progress on the staff parking lot, temporary student parking, and preparations for the traffic pattern that will be in place as the school year begins.

Safety and security fencing has already been installed around demolition and construction areas. These secured areas will remain in place as work continues and as students and staff return for the upcoming school year. Safety remains a top priority throughout every phase of this project.

Families and students will also receive a detailed traffic pattern drawing before school begins. During this first phase, returning War Eagles will find that the traffic pattern for drop-off and pick-up will remain the same.

Groundbreaking Marks the First Step Toward the Future of Wakulla High School

Wakulla County Schools celebrated an exciting milestone with the official groundbreaking for the new Wakulla High School. District leaders, school representatives, community partners, and Allstate Construction gathered to mark the beginning of Phase 1 construction.

The groundbreaking represents more than the start of a building project. It marks an important step forward for Wakulla County Schools and reflects the district’s commitment to preparing students for success in a modern, safe, and future-ready learning environment.
